Jernhusen chooses toilet concept with focus on well-being

Amsterdam, 3 September 2025
– Jernhusen and ONE HUNDRED restrooms are joining forces to set the new standard for restrooms at train stations in Sweden. The first location officially opened today at Uppsala Central Station, offering travelers a smart, fresh, and relaxing restroom experience.

Well-being, environmental awareness and inclusion are the three cornerstones of this innovative Dutch restroom concept, which is already known in Scandinavia for partnerships with Citycon, AMF and Circle K. The aim of ONE HUNDRED restrooms is to change the concept of the “toilet break” in high traffic places such as shopping centres, train stations or highway service stations from a stressful moment into a meaningful moment.

─ Public restrooms play a key role in the well-being of travelers, says Bram Gleichman, co-founder and CCO of ONE HUNDRED restrooms. “Stations are places where people are in transit, often rushed or stressed. Our aim is to offer a moment of calm in the middle of a busy travel day. We are very proud to open our first location with Jernhusen and hope this will be the start of a long-term partnership across the main stations in Sweden.

The toilets were opened by Petra Hersgren, Northeast Regional Manager of Jernhusen together with Marielle Romeijn, co-founder of ONE HUNDRED  and Bertil Moskowicz, country manager Nordics of ONE HUNDRED.

─ At Jernhusen, we work to create attractive and safe stations where people feel welcome, comfortable, and inspired,” says Petra Hersgren. Through the collaboration with ONE HUNDRED at Uppsala Central Station, we are setting a new standard for the well-being of travelers at the station. Together, we want to offer modern and high-quality restroom facilities that are in line with that mission.

The new restroom facilities in Uppsala station are located on the top floor of Uppsala Central Station. The space is designed with a modern, wellness-inspired atmosphere, combining comfort with functionality. The restroom facilities are unisex, ensuring both flexibility and inclusivity for all visitors. In addition, there is a separate accessible toilet including a baby changing station. Visitors are offered additional free well-being services. This includes a quick health check that can measure blood pressure, BMI, and body temperature. There is also a water station that offers chilled and filtered drinking water free of charge. Visitors are asked to make a small contribution to water projects in developing countries, in collaboration with Made Blue and Rocas We Are Water Foundation.

ONE HUNDRED restrooms integrates smart technology and responsible working practices throughout its operations. Each facility is designed with a focus on efficient water use, energy conservation and long-term circularity. The restrooms are available during station opening hours and are staffed by ONE HUNDRED service personnel, known as the “comfort crew”, for most of the day. In the evening, an unmanned, night-time restroom is available to ensure continued toilet access.
