HOW IT ALL STARTED

Fastned, the market leader in electric charging and known for its innovative and sustainable approach, was developing a completely new concept for highway charging stations. For this new generation of flagship locations, they were looking for a restroom partner who shared their vision: forward-thinking, sustainable, and focused on delivering a great visitor experience. From the very beginning, there was interest in collaborating with ONE HUNDRED on a European concept. For us, it immediately felt like a good match. Fastned is building the future of mobility, and we are building the future of well-being restroom breaks on the go. This  made us very eager to work with Fastned.

THE CHALLENGE

Fastned set out to create a completely new experience along the highway, fresh, modern, and aligned with their next-generation shop concept. They were looking for a restroom experience that matched this disruptive vision while still delivering the quality standards ONE HUNDRED is known for. The proven success of ONE HUNDRED made us the preferred partner, but our signature design was not ideal for the Fastned case.

At that moment, we did not yet have a solution in our portfolio that allowed both brands to come together in a distinctive design. We explored several routes, from white-label to powered-by concepts, but none of these aligned with our ambitions and well-being vision. We wanted a solution where the strengths of both brands would merge into something completely new, setting a new standard.

THE SOLUTION

Together with Fastned, we developed a new approach: ONE HUNDRED Collab. A concept where two brands join forces, blending the well-being vision of ONE HUNDRED with the bright, bold visual identity of Fastned. This collaboration resulted in a completely new design language, creating a unique restroom experience tailored for Fastned’s flagship locations.

To bring this vision to life, we worked closely with Fastned’s design agency Desarc, our own creative partner We Want More Studio and our construction partner Culi-Nova. Together, we shaped a concept that feels both fresh and future-proof.

We also introduced several well-being innovations designed specifically for the Fastned experience, such as a digital face scan that helps drivers understand their stress levels while on the road, and a mini vending unit with useful on the go essentials.

THE IMPACT

The outcome of this collaboration exceeded all expectations. The new restroom concept immediately drew positive attention, from international media coverage to enthusiastic reactions from visitors, who rewarded the location with an impressive 9.4. The Fastned team expressed great satisfaction with both the process and the result, confirming that the co-created approach truly delivered on its promise.

As always the strength lies in the close partnership and the shared ambition to create something that genuinely improves the visitor experience. Together, we shaped a concept that brings comfort, hygiene, and well-being into a fast-paced environment.

It became a project that not only raised the standard for highway restrooms, but also showed what is possible when two innovative brands come together. We even created a short documentary to celebrate the collaboration and the journey behind it.

THE FUTURE

Our European collaboration with Fastned is continuing to grow, building on the success of the first flagship location. We are already preparing the next sites in Europe, including a location in the Netherlands and one between Brussels and Luxembourg. Both will open in 2026.

Each new step expands the network and strengthens our shared ambition to redefine the highway experience. Together, we are creating a series of innovative highway charging locations where visitors can recharge, both their cars and themselves.

“At Fastned, we build fast charging stations for people. Because people on the road need more than just a charged battery: they want good food, drinks, clean restrooms, and a place to relax. We want drivers to see our stations as a destination worth stopping for not only to recharge their car, but also to recharge themselves. With ONE HUNDRED restrooms onboard, our stations go beyond being just a pit stop. They become a place where travellers can truly refresh and continue their journey energized.”

“The collab concept represents a powerful blend of our shared missions: to enhance well-being and support a smooth, stress-free journey. With the new Fastned restrooms, we are proving that a restroom stop can be a moment of care, innovation, and new energy.”

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Markthal, an iconic location in Rotterdam and part of Klépierre, became the next step in our collaboration with Klépierre when the contract with their previous restroom provider ended. Known for its high footfall and vibrant atmosphere, Markthal had been on our radar for years as the perfect spot to introduce our concept. It’s a dynamic foodhall where visitors need a good toilet break and enjoy a moment of calm amidst the hustle and bustle. This project is especially close to our hearts, as co-founder Marielle lives in Rotterdam and frequently visits Markthal, making this location a personal milestone in our journey.

THE CHALLENGE

Markthal faces the daily challenge of accommodating an impressive restroom visitor count, averaging over 1,000 people per day, with frequent peaks during busy hours. The existing restroom facilities struggled to handle this capacity effectively, and finding an alternative location within the building was not an option. To address this, we approached the problem differently: why not implement unisex restrooms? This solution provides far greater flexibility and optimises the available space to better manage peak times. By adapting the design to this innovative concept, we were able to create a restroom facility that not only meets the demand but also enhances the visitor experience.

THE SOLUTION

The solution for Markthal was a spacious, bright unisex restroom hub designed to meet the high demands of its dynamic visitor flow. This modern space features: interactive mirrors, non-touch amenities and  a beauty bar, all complemented by soothing music, fragrance, and lighting. Dedicated spaces for individuals with disabilities and families ensure accessibility, while visitors can even enjoy a free health check, making it a true moment of well-being.

To maintain the highest standards, our comfort crew is present at all times, ensuring that the space remains clean, safe, and welcoming for every visitor. We monitor the restroom’s performance remotely through our digital dashboard, which tracks usage, customer ratings, and operational efficiency in real-time. Additionally, our field coach regularly visits the site to coach the comfort crew, provide support, and ensure that the quality and customer experience continue to exceed expectations.

THE IMPACT

Our approach at Markthal has achieved outstanding results, delivering both measurable impact and positive feedback. Customer satisfaction is at an all-time high, with an average rating of 9.6. Google reviews are overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the appreciation of visitors.

Through close collaboration with the Markthal team, we tailored every aspect of the restroom experience to meet the unique needs of this iconic location. The management of Klépierre has expressed their satisfaction with the operational efficiency and enhanced visitor experience, demonstrating the value of a concept that combines innovation, care, and sustainability.

THE FUTURE

Our collaboration with Klépierre continues to grow, building on the success of locations like Maremagnum, Hoog Catharijne, and now Markthal. The next step in our partnership is France, where Les Passages is set to become the newest addition to the ONE HUNDRED network. This marks another milestone in our shared mission to redefine the restroom experience in high-traffic locations.

We look forward to expanding further with Klépierre, bringing our innovative and customer-focused concept to many more locations across Europe, ensuring that visitors everywhere can enjoy a moment of well-being during their busy day.

“Finally, a ONE HUNDRED in my own city! As a Rotterdammer, I’ve always been proud of the Markthal, but the restroom experience could be more innovative and multisensory. That’s exactly what we aim to tackle with ONE HUNDRED. Especially in a dynamic environment like the Markthal, it’s wonderful to have a moment to relax and recharge.”

“Over the past ten years, Markthal has proven itself as the food spot where people and global cuisines come together. Our architectural masterpiece in the heart of Rotterdam has become an integral part of the city’s skyline. The innovative concept of ONE HUNDRED fits perfectly here.”
