Transforming stressful toilet visits into a well-being boost

Utrecht, Wednesday the 10th of April 2024 – Today, during Dutch Health Week, the official opening of the ONE HUNDRED restrooms hub in the Netherlands’ busiest shopping centre: Hoog Catharijne took place. The restroom concept offers free well-being services in addition to a comfortable toilet experience. The mission of the Dutch scale-up is to change a toilet visit in public spaces from a stressful moment to a well-being moment for yourself.

The toilets were officially opened by unveiling ‘the ONE HUNDRED moon’ by Rinus Griep, Shopping Centre Director of Hoog Catharijne, together with Mariëlle Romeijn co-founder and Chief Brand Officer of ONE HUNDRED restrooms. Following partnerships with Maremagnum, L’Esplanade, and Alexandrium, Hoog Catharijne marks the fourth shopping mall collaboration for ONE HUNDRED with Klépierre.

Well-being services

Visitors enter the reload zone where they can immediately access a range of free well-being services, including a health check that measures blood pressure, BMI, and temperature, among other metrics. The drinking water tap provides complimentary chilled and filtered water, with an option for visitors to make a small donation to water projects in developing countries, in collaboration with Made Blue and Roca’s We Are Water initiative. Exclusively at Hoog Catharijne, ONE HUNDRED introduces an AI selfie check kiosk that conducts a facial analysis. This ‘selfie check’ offers insights into various skin features such as pigmentation, pores, redness, and wrinkles.

The goal of all well-being services is to promote awareness of physical and mental fitness. Upon entering, one immediately notices the impressive vending wall offering self-tests. ONE HUNDRED has established an exclusive partnership with Vivoo for these self-tests; they create urine tests with the mission of enabling individuals to take charge of their own well-being. By regularly testing and tracking their results in the Vivoo app, users can gain insights into their body’s needs and receive personalised nutritional and lifestyle recommendations. The Vivoo range includes a comprehensive test that analyses urine in 9 different areas, along with 4 separate tests (Vitamin C, protein, hydration, and vaginal pH), each comprising 30 urine strips.

On behalf of ONE HUNDRED, MSI Consultants carried out a study to explore the need among the Dutch population aged 18 and over to gain more control over their own well-being and health. The study found that 47% of individuals aged 18-35 wish to take more control of their well-being and health by focusing on mental/emotional health. Additionally, the survey gained insight into which health aspects are considered for self-testing; cholesterol, vitamins and minerals, fatigue, and bowel function were most frequently mentioned. Based on these findings, ONE HUNDRED also formed a partnership with The Medical Tester, a company that sells CE-certified self-tests aligning closely with the survey results.

Toilet concept

The sense of well-being is amplified by indirect lighting, a unique aroma, comfortable furnishings, and soothing music. Within the toilet cubicles, visitors can enjoy mind-boosting music from the meditation and mood music app, Sines. Additionally, the restrooms are equipped with touchless solutions and water-saving flush systems. Special tactile communication is utilised for those who are visually impaired.

The comfort crew is present during opening hours to welcome visitors and ensure the restrooms are continuously clean. ONE HUNDRED also provides a separate room for disabled guests, a family room equipped with a children’s toilet and play area, and a nursery where infants can be changed, cared for, and fed (including a microwave) in a calm and serene environment.

Visitors to ONE HUNDRED pay €1 for their toilet visits, which not only grants them access to all well-being services but also entitles them to discounts at Cinnabon, Manneken Pis, Salsa Shop, or Schuttevaer. From April to June 2024, Hoog Catharijne Premium members will enjoy a 50% discount. Additionally, visitors will find further benefits revealed through scanning the QR code on their voucher. Beyond the paper voucher benefits, scanning the QR code on their ticket provides customers with exclusive access to a shop featuring attractive well-being retreats and offers throughout the Netherlands.

“Our concept is designed to add as much value as possible for the visitor, making a visit to ONE HUNDRED a very good deal. Our high ratings and rapid growth in Europe show that this formula works,” says Bram Gleichman, co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer  of ONE HUNDRED restrooms.

Mobile comfort hub gold winner MUSE Design Awards 2023

ONE HUNDRED wins gold MUSE design award

Amsterdam, Monday 16th of October 2023 – We are pleased to announce that the ONE HUNDRED mobile comfort hub has been crowned as a 2023 MUSE Design Awards Gold winner within the Architectural Design – Pop-Ups & Temporary category.

The MUSE Design Awards is an international competition that aims to advance the appreciation of great design and designers. They believe in the power of design to inspire, transform, and change the world, and the awards are a platform to celebrate this. The MUSE Design Awards has a broad spectrum of categories, ranging from interior and architectural design to product and fashion design.

Within 6 months after introducing its mobile comfort hub in Knokke-Heist, Belgium in July 2023, ONE HUNDRED has already secured its first recognition in the Pop-Ups & Temporary division of the MUSE awards.
This is because the mobile comfort hub offers a unique combination of premium restrooms in a mobile container. Visitors of the mobile comfort hub experience a moment of well-being through soothing music, indirect lighting, a pleasant scent and the comfortable interior. In addition, there is a full-time presence of the comfort crew, so that the toilet facilities are kept clean at all times.

The entry was judged by an esteemed panel of internationally recognized design professionals. The judges evaluate the submissions based on criteria like creativity, form, function, and what kind of impact the design has on the community or the industry.

Multiple award-winning
The Grands prix du design award isn’t the first recognition for the ONE HUNDRED restrooms project, designed by WeWantMore studio from Antwerp. The design for retail, transport hubs and higway service stations has been awarded in 2019 with a Silver A’Design award, a platinum MUSE design award, an iF design award in 2020, a Platinum Grand Prix and a golden ADC Award in the Public Building Interior Design Built category beginning of 2023.

The design concept of ONE HUNDRED is created by WeWantMore, a Belgium based award winning design studio, founded in 2006, focusing on graphic, interior and experiential design. Based on the original design of WeWantMore, Culinova and ONE HUNDRED have created the mobile hub solution.

ONE HUNDRED restrooms starts toilet revolution with smart urinal

ONE HUNDRED restrooms, the Dutch scale-up, has entered a partnership with the Spanish tech start-up Kamleon to make people aware of the importance of drinking enough water, by means of a hydration tracker. This makes ONE HUNDRED the first public toilet concept in the world to offer a smart urinal.

The smart urinal that automatically measures the hydration level when in use will be available to visitors of Barcelona Sants train station as of today. The innovative system
measures hydration non-invasively via the urine, analyzing various parameters. The user will see the result on a screen installed above the urinal after a few seconds. The smart
technology is integrated into an existing product of Roca, strategic partner of ONE HUNDRED. The solution has been extensively tested in 2021 through multiple pilots in different centers such as the Geriatric Day Hospital of the Hospital de Mar in Barcelona, as well as in the French Olympic Training Center in Font Romeu (France), with optimal results. “The collaboration with ONE HUNDRED is the start of the future where health tracking becomes part of your daily routine”, says Jordi Ferr  Albiol, CEO of Kamleon.

The goal of the new service is to raise public awareness of the importance of adequate water intake to improve well-being and health and prevent potential illnesses related to
lack of hydration. Up to 75% of the European population don’t drink the recommended daily amount of water. Especially when on the go. Dehydration decreases physical
performance, causes moodiness, negatively affects cognitive performance, decreases productivity, and can cause headaches or migraines. Many people do not drink enough
water when they are on the go, either because they avoid using public toilets due to a lack of hygiene or because they do not have water with them. “It is time for a toilet revolution, in which a visit to the toilet becomes a moment of well-being instead of a moment of stress. This innovation developed by Kamleon fits our vision perfectly”, says Marielle Romeijn, co-founder of ONE HUNDRED restrooms.

Both the smart urine analysis and the hydration station are free services that ONE HUNDRED offers as part of the paid toilet visit. Other well-being services available for visitors are a health check – which measures, among other things, blood pressure, heart rate, BMI and oxygen saturation in the blood – a shower room, non-touch technology, a baby care room and interactive mirrors with well-being tips.

Kamleon is currently working on a new model of a smart urinal for women and is exploring the possibility of optimizing the service by analyzing other parameters. The collaboration
between ONE HUNDRED and Kamleon aims to offer the smart hydration check in the future at as many ONE HUNDRED locations in Europe as possible for both men and
women. In the course of 2023, it is expected that visitors of TotalEnergies stations in the Netherlands, shopping malls in Belgium and Stockholm and all new locations with ONE
HUNDRED presence, will also be able to measure their hydration level during a toilet visit.
